Medicine is delivered at the intersection of what research tells us, who we are as people, and where we live. How does this translate for patients living in Australia?

My name is Dr Jian Cheng. As a kidney specialist based at Orange Base Hospital, this website is specifically for patients in Australia. My goal is to provide clear and concise information about kidney disease, and to offer an overview of how we think, the tests we order and the treatments we can provide. These insights are based on my clinical experience over years of medical practice, and drawing on my skills as an educator.

I was born and raised in Sydney, and completed my medical degree at Monash University in 2011. I finished my kidney specialty training in 2020 working across centres such as Royal North Shore, Gold Coast and Westmead hospitals. I have also completed a Masters of Public Health, and a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education. I am a clinical lecturer for University of Sydney and Charles Sturt University medical students. I hold fellowships with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and Higher Education Academy.
